New
Ways of Working for
Service Users and Carers
What does it mean
for service users and carers?
New Ways of Working is about
enabling all workers to be flexible: -
- to work in teams
- to focus on their skills rather than
their status
- to meet service user and carer needs
more effectively
- to work together towards recovery
It is about having service users and
carers at the heart of every aspect of care as equal partners. It
brings new people into extended and new roles e.g. Support Time and
Recovery (STR) Workers.
How can 'you'
become involved?
If your local Trust is adopting NWW
they should have a NWW Steering Group, which should have 2 service
user and 2 carer representatives. We are in the process of
developing a national network for these representatives.
Check with your local Trust if this is happening and how you
can become involved.

Teams which involves service users and carers from start to
finish. Please contact your CSIP Regional Development Centre Workforce
Lead for further information.
Users and Carers have already been
involved in developing a range of booklets and leaflets. One
of the most recent is the Medicines Management: Everybody's Business
Booklet.
Contact us; the NWW Service User
and Carer Involvement Leads:
"We're here to help
develop effective engagement of service users and carers in
the implementation of New Ways of Working. To enable us
to do this locally, regionally and nationally, we would like to
establish networks for information sharing, highlighting good
practice and providing opportunities for your involvement.
Please do get in touch should you be interested, we'd be pleased to
have you on board".
