Child and
Adolescent
Mental Health
Services
(CAMHS)
The principles of NWW can be applied to
CAMHS:
NWW has been a major workforce
initiative since 2003. It is acknowledged that many CAMHS were
already using these principles before 2003.
New Ways of Working is about
enabling all workers to be flexible: -
- to work effectively in teams
- to focus on their skills, competencies and
capabilities rather than their status
- to bring new people into extended and new
roles
- to meet children and families needs
- to work together across boundaries
It is about having children and families
at the centre of every aspect of care.
What does NWW mean for CAMHS?
NWW is about making the best use of the
current workforce, enhancing job satisfaction, providing career
development for the services’ most important asset – the staff –
and ensuring services meet the needs of children, young people and
families/carers.
NWW will allow experienced staff to
extend their practice and provide opportunities for
new people to come into the workforce
at various levels.
NWW in CAMHS recognises that we need to
concentrate on how we develop our staff to ensure that we provide
the mix of skill and capabilities required to meet identified
needs. Depending on local circumstances, the solutions will
vary.
If we are to truly move towards the
development of comprehensive CAMHS services,
there will be an ongoing need to
explore NWW as part of a modern workforce.
